Corrugated feature panels for hub hotel
Sheppard Robson specify GA for hub by Premier Inn
Architectural collective Sheppard Robson has specified Gooding Aluminium’s Simplicity corrugated aluminium profiles for the new hub by Premier Inn hotel in London Marylebone, demonstrating how precision-engineered feature facades can elevate city centre developments.
The anodised aluminium panels are the finishing touch to this cleverly designed city centre hotel with compact rooms. They provide a refined, contemporary look, delivering both aesthetic appeal and long-term durability in a high-traffic urban location.
Part of Gooding Aluminium’s modular panelling system, the Simplicity corrugated aluminium panels were chosen to create a dynamic, textured facade that brings rhythm and interest to the hotel’s front and side elevations.
The symmetrically profiled extruded aluminium panels, installed vertically across seven distinct areas of the building, add visual depth while maintaining clean lines and modern elegance.
Designed with ease of installation in mind, Simplicity panels allow for secret fixing in either vertical or horizontal orientation on vertical surfaces. For the hub hotel, RFL Facades, an approved installer, assembled approximately 160m² of GA CP78 corrugated panels on site, ensuring a seamless fit and precise alignment. The panels’ 175mm cover width, coupled with the single design twin-set trim (serving as end stops and external or internal corner components) enabled the creation of a continuous, curvaceous effect across the facade.
Gooding Aluminium’s Simplicity profiles are supplied with pre-drilled holes in the unseen fixing flanges, streamlining installation and reducing site time. The panels used for the hub by Premier Inn feature a mill finish anodised to ANOLOK II B1717, offering an attractive, natural metallic sheen. The anodised finish not only looks elegant but also provides excellent resistance to scratching, weathering, and UV exposure, ideal for a busy central London setting.

Benefits of perforated aluminium balustrade panels
The Simplicity system is independently tested for Thermal and Wind Load Performance, in accordance with European Assessment Document EAD 090062-00-0404 2018 for kits used in mechanically-fixed external wall claddings. This certification ensures the panels deliver exceptional performance in demanding environments while meeting stringent building regulations.
Gooding Aluminium’s Simplicity corrugated panels are normally available in 2.5 or 3.0 metre lengths, with complementary trim profiles in 3.0 metre lengths. These extruded aluminium alloy panels are offered in a natural anodised finish as standard, but for projects requiring colour, Gooding Aluminium can supply powder-coated finishes in almost any RAL colour, typically within just a few days. Both natural anodised and powder-coated options provide elegant and resilient finishes, perfectly suited for commercial, hospitality, leisure, retail, and public sector projects.
In addition to aesthetic versatility, Simplicity’s modular system design makes it straightforward to adapt panels to complex architectural geometries, corners, or end stops – essential for projects like the hub hotel, where compact site constraints demand both design flexibility and precision.
The anodised aluminium facade panels specified by Sheppard Robson for the hub by Premier Inn contribute significantly to the hotel’s sophisticated, urban identity. The lightweight yet robust nature of aluminium reduces structural load on the building while the ventilated cavity behind the rainscreen cladding system improves thermal performance and moisture management – key considerations in sustainable façade design.
Sheppard Robson’s use of corrugated aluminium cladding panels aligns with modern architectural trends favouring materials that offer both technical performance and aesthetic excellence. Corrugated profiles like GA CP78 create light and shadow play across façades, animating surfaces throughout the day, and adding a distinctive character that stands out in a dense urban context.
Please note: with applied finishes and curved surfaces, there may occasionally appear subtle shade or tonal variations due to the nature of anodised and powder-coated finishes. This is a normal and often desirable characteristic of architectural metalwork, adding depth and richness to the visual effect.
