Worth School, West Sussex

Design: AW Spaces

  • Product: GA CP1 ceiling trays
  • Pattern: GA P1686 (12.7mm diameter round holes on a staggered pitch)
  • Surface finish: powder coated in RAL1023
  • Photography: Marek Sikora for AW Spaces.

AW Spaces transformed an old library into contemporary classrooms and tech-enabled spaces. Their refurbishment brought natural light into circulation spaces while integrating practical features such as suspended acoustic ceiling trays.

GA supplied GA CP1 ceiling trays with 30mm returns to all edges and plain perimeter borders. These were suspended using stainless steel cables and fittings. The trays were manufactured using perforated aluminium sheets, pattern GA P1686 (12.7mm diameter round holes on a staggered pitch), and finished in a vibrant powder coated RAL1023 yellow.

The ceiling trays not only deliver acoustic benefits but also add a bold, modern design feature to the corridors of this West Sussex school.

Scottish Ballet, Tramway, Glasgow

Design: Malcolm Fraser Architects

  • Product: GA CP1 ceiling tray with acoustic infill
  • Pattern: GA bespoke (12.7mm diameter holes on a square pitch)
  • Surface finish: powder coated
  • Photography: Graham Lees.

At the home of Scottish Ballet in Glasgow’s Tramway building, GA’s perforated ceiling trays were specified to support acoustic performance in rehearsal and performance areas.

Working closely with Malcolm Fraser Architects, GA fabricated a GA CP1 ceiling tray system with bespoke perforation: 12.7mm diameter holes on a square pitch. These were powder coated and supplied with acoustic infill for enhanced sound control.

This high-profile project was recognised with two Scottish Design Awards: Best Public Building and the Architecture Grand Prix. The suspended aluminium ceiling panels played a key role in helping the venue meet both technical and visual ambitions.

Hackney Marshes Centre, East London

Design: Stanton Williams Architects

  • Product: GA PS1664 perforated aluminium sheet (2.0mm material thickness)
  • Pattern: 19mm square holes
  • Surface finish: Mill finish
  • Photography: Rowan Isaac.

The Hackney Marshes Centre forms part of a wider regeneration project commissioned by the London Borough of Hackney. The South Marsh Community Hub required a durable, attractive ceiling system to screen mechanical and electrical services along its corridors.

GA supplied PS1664 perforated aluminium ceiling trays, using 2.0mm thick aluminium with 19mm square holes in mill finish. The ceiling trays were single or double folded and included plain side borders with slotted fixing holes for onsite adjustment.

Each tray was mounted using aluminium angle and rivet nut fixings, providing a clean and secure connection without compromising the surface finish. The mill finish aluminium offered excellent corrosion resistance and a cost-effective solution for this high-traffic space.

Tessuti Retail Store, Liverpool One

Design: Counterfeit Studio

  • Product: GA bespoke ceiling panels
  • Pattern: GA PSP627 (31.7mm diameter holes punched on a bespoke square pitch)
  • Surface finish: Mill (GA protected the sheets during perforating with a peelable film and supplied them with the film attached for protection during installation)
  • Principal Contractor: Kiwi Design
  • Photography: S M Hammond.

Tessuti’s flagship store spans 22,000 square feet and sets a new benchmark for destination retail. Combining references to Italian style and Liverpool’s architectural heritage, the space blends tactile materials with modern technology.

GA was commissioned to supply bespoke perforated aluminium ceiling panels throughout the store. The design featured seven different ceiling areas, each with custom pattern matching and spacing.

The chosen perforation pattern, GA PSP627, consisted of 31.7mm diameter holes on a bespoke square pitch. The aluminium sheets were supplied in mill finish, with a protective peelable film left in place during installation. Panels were pre-punched with fixing holes and screw-fixed to plyboard using tubular spacers and extra-long screws, ensuring uniformity and precision throughout.

Panel types include GA CP1 (single folds), GA CP2 (double folds), GA CP3 and CP4 (with secret fixings), and bespoke tray designs.

We work closely with architects, interior designers and contractors to deliver cost-effective solutions that balance performance with design. Whether you are specifying ceiling panels for a retail fit-out, cultural venue or education project, GA’s fabricated aluminium panels provide exceptional flexibility and quality.

All aluminium materials are produced to European standards, including BS EN 485, 515 and 573 for sheet aluminium and BS EN 755 for extruded profiles. Our powder coating and anodising services comply with BS 6496 and BS EN ISO 7599 respectively.

Sustainable, recyclable and low maintenance

Aluminium is a sustainable material choice for ceiling systems. It is lightweight, corrosion-resistant and easy to recycle. All GA panels are fabricated from architectural-grade aluminium, which offers excellent resistance to weathering and impact. Where acoustic control is required, our perforated panels can be combined with mineral wool or other insulation materials.

Maintenance is straightforward: powder coated and anodised finishes can be wiped clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Panels can be specified with easy-lift access or designed with pre-cut openings for services such as lighting, speakers, sprinklers and alarms.
