Description

The GA 1006 is an aluminium general-purpose trim with a 6.5mm single-slot gap — GA’s narrowest trim in the miscellaneous channel range. Unlike an H-section connector, which joins two panels from opposite sides, this is a single-slot edge trim: it slides or caps onto one panel edge, finishing the exposed face with a clean, continuous metal detail while protecting the edge from damage and delamination.

The 6.5mm gap is sized for thin materials: 6mm boards, thin composite panels, acrylic and polycarbonate sheet, lightweight veneered MDF, and thin foam-core display boards. Where a board edge needs a finished, protected appearance rather than just a raw cut face, the GA 1006 provides a practical solution that requires no adhesive and no specialist fixing equipment.

Manufactured from grade 6063 aluminium alloy to BS EN 755, 515, and 573 standards. Available from stock in mill (untreated) or natural anodised finish in 4-metre lengths. Powder coat and cut lengths available to order.

N.B. Jig marks, up to 50mm in from each end (often less than this), can be apparent on anodised items. These marks can be cut away before fixing.

Shade variations can occur with anodised surfaces due to the reactive nature of this finishing process.

Gap Width:  6.5mm

Suitable Material Thickness:  Typically 6mm thin boards, acrylic/polycarbonate sheet, thin composite panels — refer to the dimensional drawing for precise tolerances

Profile Function:  Single-slot edge trim/cap — finishes and protects ONE panel or board edge (not a panel-to-panel connector)

Profile Category:  Miscellaneous Channel — Single-Slot Edge Trim

Material:  Grade 6063 Aluminium Alloy

Standards:  BS EN 755, BS EN 515, BS EN 573

Anodising Standard:  BS EN ISO 7599

Powder Coating Standard:  BS 6496 (1984) — available to order, please contact Sales

Length:  4 metres (4000mm) standard stock length

Available Finishes:  Mill (Untreated) or Natural Anodised

Processing Services:  Cutting to length (straight and mitre), hole drilling, rolling and curving — contact Sales Team

Finish Notes:  Anodised product codes carry an ‘s’ suffix. Jig marks within 50mm of each end are standard and can be trimmed during final fitting. Shade variations may occur between batches.

Surface Marking Test:  Independent testing (Ceram / Lucideon): anodised surface achieved up to 4× greater abrasion resistance than mill finish

Precision Edge Cap for the Thinnest Materials: At 6.5mm, the GA 1006 is engineered for thin-format boards and sheet materials. A wider-gap trim on a 6mm panel would leave the edge loose and visible; the GA 1006’s slot grips the thin edge firmly, keeping the trim aligned along the full length without the edge rattling, twisting, or separating from the trim face.

Discreet Profile Width — Minimal Visual Intrusion: Thinner gap = narrower overall trim face. The GA 1006 presents the slimmest metal edge detail of the four trims in this range, making it the right specification when the board surface is the design feature and the edge treatment should register as a fine line rather than a prominent border.

Protects Against Edge Delamination and Damage: Thin boards and veneered panels are particularly susceptible to edge chipping, delamination, and moisture ingress through the cut face. The GA 1006 physically covers and seals the raw edge, reducing the risk of surface veneer or laminate lifting over time and improving the durability of the panel in its installed position.

Anodised Finish Tested to Last: Independent testing carried out by Ceram Building Technology (now Lucideon) showed that natural anodised aluminium extrusions withstand up to four times as many abrasion passes before showing surface damage compared with mill finish. For edge trims on thin panels used in display, furniture, and joinery work — where the trim is visible and may be regularly touched or cleaned — the anodised option provides a noticeably more durable surface.

Corrosion Free in All Interior Environments: Grade 6063 aluminium does not rust. Unlike thin steel or plated edge trims, the GA 1006 will resist corrosion in damp, humid, or mildly exposed environments, making it a reliable long-term edge solution. However, anodising the surface, will considerably enhance aluminium’s corrosion resistant qualities.

Display Graphics & Sign Mounting Systems: Display systems and sign mounting frameworks frequently use 5mm or 6mm foam-core boards and thin rigid sheet as the display substrate. The GA 1006 trims the exposed perimeter edges of these boards to provide a professional metal edge detail that protects the board from damage during transport, installation, and repositioning. The slim profile does not visually compete with the display content.

Acrylic, Polycarbonate & Thin Sheet Edge Protection: Transparent and translucent sheet materials — including acrylic, polycarbonate, and thin toughened sheet — have sharp, chip-prone cut edges that benefit from a protective metal cap. The GA 1006 fits over the cut edge of 6mm sheet, protecting it from chipping, providing a safer finished edge in installations where people may brush against exposed sheet edges.

Premium Furniture & Cabinetry Edge Finishing: In high-specification furniture and cabinetry work using thin veneered MDF or veneered plywood, the GA 1006 provides an alternative to iron-on veneer tape or PVC edge banding — one that is more durable, more resistant to heat and moisture, and gives the piece a distinctive metallic edge detail. Used on drawer fronts, door edge returns, and cabinet side panels.

Lightweight Interior Partition Edges: Thin-wall interior partitioning systems — including foam-insulated composite panels and lightweight stud-free dividing systems built from thin sheet — use the GA 1006 to finish panel perimeter edges at floor, ceiling, and wall abutments. The slim profile keeps partition-to-wall junction details tight and tidy without adding bulk to the overall partition depth.
