Description

The GA 1023 is an aluminium Y-section general purpose trim with a 20.0mm gap — the mid-wide profile in GA’s Y-shape range, designed for the board thicknesses used in structural fit-out and demountable office partition systems. The base fixes to a structural receiving surface and the two arms grip both faces of a panel edge simultaneously at the junction, providing a complete perimeter trim that covers the panel termination cleanly on both sides without requiring separate profiles on each face.

The 20.0mm gap is matched to 18mm and 19mm materials: standard structural MDF, plywood, and engineered board used in demountable office partition panels, boardroom wall linings, and commercial interior boarding systems. In these contexts, the Y-section perimeter trim at ceiling, floor, and wall abutments is a functional requirement — it covers the structural gap, keeps the panel aligned, and finishes the partition perimeter to a professional standard without individual trims on each face.

Available from stock in mill (untreated) or natural anodised finish in 4-metre lengths. Powder coat and cut lengths available to order.

Notes: Jig marks, up to 50mm in from each end (often less than this), can be apparent on anodised items. These marks can be cut away before fixing.

Shade variations can occur with anodised surfaces due to the reactive nature of this finishing process.

Product Code:  GA 1023 (Mill) / GA 1023s (Natural Anodised)

Gap Width:  20.0mm

Suitable Panel Thickness:  Typically 18–19mm (structural MDF, plywood, engineered board for partition systems) — refer to the dimensional drawing for precise tolerances

Profile Function:  Y-section panel-to-surface junction trim: base fixes to receiving surface, two arms grip both faces of panel edge at the perimeter or termination point

Profile Category:  Aluminium Y-Section — Panel-to-Surface Junction Trim

Material:  Grade 6063 Aluminium Alloy

Standards:  BS EN 755, BS EN 515, BS EN 573

Anodising Standard:  BS EN ISO 7599

Powder Coating Standard:  BS 6496 (1984) — available to order, please contact Sales

Length:  4 metres (4000mm) standard stock length

Available Finishes:  Mill (Untreated) or Natural Anodised

Finish Notes:  Anodised product codes carry an ‘s’ suffix (e.g. GA 1019s). Jig marks within 50mm of each end are standard and can be trimmed during final fitting. Shade variations may occur between batches.

Surface Marking Test:  Independent testing (Ceram / Lucideon): anodised surface achieved up to 4× greater abrasion resistance than mill finish

Sized for Structural Partition Board — 18mm MDF and Plywood: 18mm structural board is the standard for commercial partition panel systems in demountable office fit-out. The GA 1023’s 20mm gap provides controlled working tolerance for this board gauge, accommodating the slight variation between batches and the cut-edge tolerances that occur when panels are sized on site, while keeping both arms in positive contact with the panel face at the junction.

Single Profile Replaces Two Separate Perimeter Trims: In conventional partition installations, the head, base, and wall abutment junctions each require separate profiles on the front and rear face of the panel. The Y-section’s two arms cover both faces simultaneously from a single fixing operation — halving the number of profiles required at each perimeter junction and significantly reducing installation time in partition runs with multiple wall and ceiling abutments.

Flat Base for Clean, Secure Fixing to Structural Surfaces: The base of the Y-section provides a full-width flat bearing against the ceiling, floor, or wall it is fixed to. In office fit-out environments where structural surfaces may not be perfectly regular, this flat bearing surface allows the trim to sit consistently against the structure along the full length of the run without rocking or requiring packing behind the profile.

Test-Evidenced Anodised Surface Performance: For demountable partition systems that are regularly reconfigured — and whose perimeter trims are therefore repeatedly contacted, removed, and reinstalled — surface durability matters. Independent testing by Ceram Building Technology (now Lucideon) demonstrated that the anodised aluminium surface resists abrasive damage at up to four times the rate of mill finish. Specifying the anodised GA 1023s means the profile retains its appearance across multiple installation cycles.

Consistent with Other GA Extrusion Products in the Same Installation: Where multiple GA extrusion profiles — flat bar covers, H-section panel joints, and Y-section junction trims — are used in the same partition or boarding installation, specifying the anodised finish across all profiles produces a consistent metallic surface appearance at every detail point in the system. All GA extrusion profiles share the same 6063 alloy specification and anodising standard.

Demountable Office Partition Head & Base Junctions: Demountable office partition systems use 18mm structural board as the standard panel gauge. The GA 1023 provides the ceiling-head and floor-base junction trim for these systems — the base fixes to the structural soffit or floor slab, and the two arms capture the top or bottom edge of the partition panel from both faces. The resulting detail is clean on both sides of the partition, and the aluminium trim remains undamaged through repeated system reconfigurations.

Boardroom & Meeting Room Wall Lining Panel Terminations: 18mm MDF boarding used as a wall lining in boardrooms, meeting rooms, and client-facing commercial spaces terminates against the floor, ceiling, and any adjacent walls. The GA 1023 provides the perimeter junction trim at these points — fixing to the structural surface and gripping both faces of the boarding simultaneously, producing a continuous, gap-free metal perimeter line that is appropriate for high-specification interior environments.

Commercial Office Fit-Out Partition Abutments Against Columns & Walls: Where a partition panel system runs to a structural column, existing wall, or other vertical surface, the junction between the panel end and the structure requires a perimeter trim that covers both panel faces and fixes to the structural surface. The GA 1023 handles this detail for 18mm board, providing a consistent junction trim at every column and wall abutment point throughout a partition run.

Raised Floor Plate & Upstand Panel Perimeter Junctions: In raised access floor environments, upstand panels and equipment zone dividers are frequently constructed from 18mm board and need a floor-to-panel junction detail at the raised floor level. The GA 1023 provides this, with the base sitting on the raised floor surface and the arms covering both faces of the upstand panel, keeping the junction trim consistent with the rest of the panel system perimeter and eliminating raw board edges at floor level.
