Description

Aluminium Y-Section Trim 26mm

The GA 1022 is an aluminium Y-section general purpose trim with a 26.0mm gap — the widest-gap profile in GA’s Y-shape range, and the specification for thick, heavy-gauge, and double-skin panel systems. The base fixes to a structural receiving surface and the two diverging arms span a 26mm gap, gripping both faces of a thick panel edge simultaneously at the junction where the panel meets a wall, ceiling, or floor.

A 26mm gap accommodates panels around 24–25mm thick: double-skin constructions where two standard boards are bonded together for improved acoustic performance, impact resistance, or fire rating; thick engineered boards specified for structural or high-impact environments; and proprietary heavy-duty panel systems whose combined thickness exceeds the capacity of narrower Y-section profiles. The wider gap also provides useful tolerance for panels with edge build-ups — acoustic seals, intumescent strips, or edge tape — applied to the panel perimeter before installation.

Available from stock in mill (untreated) or natural anodised finish in 4-metre lengths. Powder coat and cut lengths available to order.

Notes: Jig marks, up to 50mm in from each end (often less than this), can be apparent on anodised items. These marks can be cut away before fixing.

Shade variations can occur with anodised surfaces due to the reactive nature of this finishing process.

Product Code:  GA 1022 (Mill) / GA 1022s (Natural Anodised)

Gap Width:  26.0mm

Suitable Panel Thickness:  Typically, 24–25mm (double-skin panels, thick engineered boards, heavy composite systems) — refer to the dimensional drawing for precise tolerances

Profile Function:  Y-section panel-to-surface junction trim: base fixes to receiving surface, two arms grip both faces of panel edge at the perimeter or termination point

Profile Category:  Aluminium Y-Section — Panel-to-Surface Junction Trim

Material:  Grade 6063 Aluminium Alloy

Standards:  BS EN 755, BS EN 515, BS EN 573

Anodising Standard:  BS EN ISO 7599

Powder Coating Standard:  BS 6496 (1984) — available to order, please contact Sales

Length:  4 metres (4000mm) standard stock length

Available Finishes:  Mill (Untreated) or Natural Anodised

Finish Notes:  Anodised product codes carry an ‘s’ suffix (e.g. GA 1019s). Minor jig marks within 50mm of each end are standard and can be trimmed during final fitting. Shade variations may occur between batches.

Surface Marking Test:  Independent testing (Ceram / Lucideon): anodised surface achieved up to 4× greater abrasion resistance than mill finish

Handles Double-Skin and Thick-Panel Construction: Double-skin panel systems — where two layers of standard board are bonded or mechanically fixed together to achieve improved acoustic mass or structural rigidity — typically result in combined thicknesses of 24mm or more. The GA 1022 is the Y-section profile for these assemblies: at 26mm, the arms reach around the full combined thickness and grip both outer faces, providing the perimeter junction trim for panels that exceed the capacity of narrower profiles in the range.

Accommodates Panel Edges with Applied Seals and Build-Ups: Heavy-duty panel systems used in acoustic, fire-rated, or high-performance partition applications often have edge treatments applied before installation: acoustic gaskets, intumescent seals, or edge banding strips. The GA 1022’s wider gap means these build-ups can be present on the panel edge and the profile still fits cleanly over the full edge, maintaining contact on both faces of the panel at the junction without the edge treatment preventing proper engagement with the arms.

The Most Substantial Profile in the Y-Section Range: The widest gap produces the widest overall profile — a more prominent perimeter trim with greater visual presence. In environments where partition and boarding systems are designed to be robust and visually assertive, the GA 1022 provides a perimeter junction trim that is proportionate to the heavy-gauge panels it serves, rather than appearing visually undersized against a thick double-skin panel assembly.

Proven Durability for Demanding Installation Contexts: Heavy-duty panel systems are typically installed in demanding environments — sports halls, performance venues, industrial buildings, and large-scale public buildings — where perimeter trims are subject to regular physical contact, cleaning, and the general wear associated with high-traffic spaces. Independent testing by Ceram Building Technology (now Lucideon) confirmed anodised aluminium extrusion surfaces resist abrasion at up to four times the rate of mill finish, providing evidence-based confidence in the anodised GA 1022s for these applications.

Aluminium Construction for Long-Term Structural Compatibility: In heavy-panel installations with significant structural mass, the perimeter trim needs to be dimensionally stable and structurally compatible with the substrate it is fixed to. Aluminium does not creep, warp, or shrink with temperature change, ensuring the GA 1022 maintains consistent contact against the structural surface and panel faces over years of service without the loosening or gapping that can affect lower-density trim materials.

Acoustic Partition Perimeter Junctions: High-performance acoustic partitions use double-skin or heavily loaded boards to achieve the required sound reduction. These panels, typically 24–25mm thick, require a perimeter junction profile at ceiling, floor, and wall abutments that is appropriately sized for the combined board thickness. The GA 1022 provides this, gripping both outer faces of the double-skin assembly and fixing to the structural surface — completing the acoustic perimeter while providing a tidy, consistent metallic junction detail.

High-Impact & Fire-Rated Partition System Perimeter Details: Fire-rated and high-impact partition systems in public buildings, industrial facilities, and stairwell enclosures use thick boards — often with fire-rated intumescent edge strips — to achieve their performance specification. The GA 1022’s 26mm gap accommodates both the panel thickness and edge build-up at terminations against structural surfaces, providing a perimeter trim that is compatible with the system’s performance requirements without compromising the edge seal.

Sports Hall & Leisure Facility Dividing Panel Systems: Sports halls and multi-use leisure facilities use heavy-duty movable and fixed partition systems to divide spaces and manage acoustic separation. These panels are thick and heavy; their perimeter junctions at ceiling tracks, floor channels, and wall abutments need a trim profile that is proportionate to the panel gauge. The GA 1022 provides the wall-abutment and ceiling-to-panel junction trim for these thick-panel systems, with an aluminium construction that resists the impact and cleaning exposure typical of these environments.

Structural Hoarding & Site Boarding Against Concrete & Masonry: Heavy-duty site hoarding systems and structural boarding used as temporary or semi-permanent enclosures against concrete or masonry structures use thick boards bonded or strapped together for stiffness and security. The GA 1022 provides the perimeter junction trim where this hoarding meets the structural surface, covering both board faces at the abutment and fixing to the masonry or concrete substrate, giving a defined junction detail at the panel perimeter.
