GA 1013 Aluminium Edge Trim 13.7mm Gap Profile

The GA 1013 is an aluminium general-purpose trim with a 13.7mm single-slot gap — sized for standard 12mm board, the most widely specified panel thickness in shop-fitting, joinery, office furniture, and interior fit-out. This is a single-slot edge trim: it caps onto one board edge to provide a clean, durable metal facing to what would otherwise be a raw, vulnerable cut face. It is not a panel-to-panel connector — that function is served by the H-section profiles in GA’s separate H-shape range.

The 13.7mm gap gives a working tolerance above the 12mm nominal board thickness that proves useful on site. Board thicknesses can vary between manufacturers and between sheet positions within a batch. The slight additional clearance ensures consistent, friction-free insertion across a full run of panels without the need to re-measure or adjust on each individual board.

Manufactured from grade 6063 aluminium alloy to BS EN 755, 515, and 573 standards. Available from stock in mill (untreated) or natural anodised finish in 4-metre lengths. Powder coat and cut lengths available to order.

N.B. Jig marks, up to 50mm in from each end (often less than this), can be apparent on anodised items. These marks can be cut away before fixing.

Shade variations can occur with anodised surfaces due to the reactive nature of this finishing process.

Product Code:  GA 1013 (Mill) / GA 1013s (Natural Anodised)

Gap Width:  13.7mm

Suitable Material Thickness:  Typically, 12mm (MDF, plywood, chipboard, standard shopfitting board) — refer to the dimensional drawing for precise tolerances

Profile Function:  Single-slot edge trim/cap — finishes and protects ONE panel or board edge (not a panel-to-panel connector)

Profile Category:  Miscellaneous Channel — Single-Slot Edge Trim

Material:  Grade 6063 Aluminium Alloy

Standards:  BS EN 755, BS EN 515, BS EN 573

Anodising Standard:  BS EN ISO 7599

Powder Coating Standard:  BS 6496 (1984) — available to order, please contact Sales

Length:  4 metres (4000mm) standard stock length

Available Finishes:  Mill (Untreated) or Natural Anodised

Processing Services:  Cutting to length (straight and mitre), hole drilling, rolling and curving — contact Sales Team

Finish Notes:  Anodised product codes carry an ‘s’ suffix. Jig marks within 50mm of each end are standard and can be trimmed during final fitting. Shade variations may occur between batches.

Surface Marking Test:  Independent testing (Ceram / Lucideon): anodised surface achieved up to 4× greater abrasion resistance than mill finish

Matched to 12mm Board — the Most Common Fit-Out Specification: 12mm MDF and plywood are ubiquitous in commercial fit-out: shopfitting carcasses, desk and counter tops, display fixtures, wall-mounted cabinetry, and joinery throughout offices and retail environments. By targeting this exact thickness, the GA 1013 removes the guesswork from specifying an edge trim — if 12mm board is on the job, the GA 1013 is the edge trim.

Working Tolerance that Holds Across the Full Board Run: The 13.7mm gap provides 1.7mm of working clearance above the 12mm nominal board thickness. This tolerance absorbs the minor dimensional variation that occurs between board batches and between positions within a board, meaning the trim slots on consistently without binding or leaving the edge loose. On longer runs or projects involving multiple sheet deliveries, this small but deliberate clearance makes a practical difference on site.

Converts a Raw Sawn Edge into a Finished Metal Detail: Sawn MDF and plywood edges are porous, fragile, and visually poor — they absorb moisture, chip under impact, and require filling and painting to reach an acceptable finish when left exposed. The GA 1013 eliminates all of this: the trim slides over the cut edge, presenting a non-porous, impact-resistant aluminium face that requires no further treatment and reads as a deliberate, professional design detail.

Surface Durability Backed by Independent Test Data: Where the GA 1013 is used in commercial fit-out environments subject to daily cleaning, trolley contact, or customer handling, the anodised finish option offers measurably stronger surface performance than mill finish. Independent testing by Ceram Building Technology (now Lucideon) demonstrated an up to fourfold advantage in abrasion resistance for anodised aluminium, making the anodised GA 1013s the specification-confident choice for high-traffic commercial applications.

No Edge Preparation Required — Trim Fits Directly Over the Cut Face: Unlike painted or filled edge treatments that require priming, sanding, and drying time, the GA 1013 fits directly over a sawn board edge. No adhesive is required for most applications, no specialist tools are needed, and the trim can be cut to length on site using standard aluminium-cutting blades. This saves time on both the preparation and finishing stages of the installation.

Shopfitting Unit & Retail Fixture Edge Finishing: 12mm board is the backbone of shopfitting — used for shelving units, gondola ends, display cabinet sides, counter fronts, and wall-mounted fixture carcasses throughout retail. The GA 1013 provides the edge cap on all exposed faces of these units: the top edges of shelving, the front edges of cabinet sides, and the perimeter of any panel that faces the customer or the aisle. It replaces the edge tape and painted finish typically applied to these edges with a more durable, more professional metal detail.

Office Furniture & Desk Edge Trim: Office desks, credenzas, and storage units built from 12mm board have multiple exposed edges that are subject to daily contact, moisture from drinks, and periodic impact from chairs and equipment. The GA 1013 provides the edge cap on these surfaces, protecting the board from chipping and delamination while providing a clean metal edge line that ties in with other aluminium elements in the workspace.

Joinery Workshop Edge Banding Alternative: In joinery production, edge banding for 12mm board is a standard operation but can be time-consuming and requires specialist equipment and heat-activated tape. The GA 1013 provides an aluminium alternative that can be applied on the bench without special equipment, is more impact-resistant than standard PVC banding, and creates a different aesthetic — deliberately metallic rather than colour-matched to the board surface.

Refurbishment & Second-Fix Edge Repairs: In refurbishment projects, existing panel edges are often damaged, delaminated, or poorly finished from the original installation. The GA 1013 provides a practical repair solution: slide the trim over the damaged edge, fix in place if required, and the edge reads as new and deliberately detailed rather than repaired. This is quicker and more durable than filling and repainting damaged board edges.
