Description

The GA 1003 is an H-shaped aluminium alloy panel joint trim with a 26mm internal gap — the widest-gap profile in GA’s H-section range and the specification choice for thick, heavy-duty, and double-skin panel systems. The profile works on the same H-section principle as the narrower profiles in the range: two open slots back-to-back, each accepting a panel edge and holding it on three sides to create a flush, controlled joint line. At 26mm, however, the GA 1003 reaches beyond standard single-skin boarding into the territory of thicker laminated panels, double-layer systems, and heavyweight composite boards.

A 26mm gap accommodates materials around 25mm thick: 25mm or 24mm engineered boards, double-skin constructions where two layers of standard board are bonded together, thick structural panels, and proprietary composite systems used in heavy-duty interior and structural fit-out applications. The substantial gap also allows for insulation strips, acoustic infill, or sealing material to be applied to the panel edge before insertion, making the GA 1003 a practical choice for build-ups with more complex edge conditions.

Manufactured from grade 6063 aluminium alloy to BS EN 755, 515, and 573 standards. Available from stock in mill (untreated) or natural anodised surface finish in 4-metre lengths. Powder coat and cut lengths available to order.

Notes. Jig marks, up to 50mm in from each end (often less than this), can be apparent on anodised items. These marks can be cut away before fixing.

Shade variations can occur with anodised surfaces due to the reactive nature of this finishing process.

Product Code:  GA 1003 (Mill) / GA 1003s (Natural Anodised)

Gap Width:  26.0mm

Suitable Panel Thickness:  Typically 24–25mm (double-skin boards, thick engineered panels, heavy composite systems) — refer to the dimensional drawing for precise tolerances

Profile Type:  H-Section Panel Joint Trim (open I/H-shaped extrusion)

Material:  Grade 6063 Aluminium Alloy

Standards:  BS EN 755, BS EN 515, BS EN 573

Anodising Standard:  BS EN ISO 7599

Powder Coating Standard:  BS 6496 (1984) — available to order, please contact Sales

Length:  4 metres (4000mm) standard stock length

Available Finishes:  Mill (Untreated) or Natural Anodised

Finish Notes:  Anodised product codes carry an ‘s’ suffix (e.g. GA 1000s). Minor jig marks within 50mm of each end are standard and can be trimmed during final fitting. Shade variations may occur between batches due to the reactive nature of anodising.

Surface Marking Test:  Independent testing (Ceram / Lucideon): anodised surface achieved up to 4× greater abrasion resistance than mill finish

The Widest Gap in the Range — Built for Thick and Double-Skin Panels: At 26mm, the GA 1003 handles panel systems that exceed the capacity of all narrower H-section profiles. Double-skin constructions — where two layers of 12mm board are bonded together to achieve 24mm total thickness for improved rigidity, acoustic performance, or thermal insulation — slide directly into the GA 1003 without any reduction in board specification.

Accommodates Edge Build-Ups and Sealing Treatments: The generous slot depth means the GA 1003 can still accept a panel edge after edge tape, insulating strip, acoustic seal, or fire-rated intumescent material has been applied to the board perimeter. This is not possible with narrower gap profiles, where any edge build-up either prevents insertion or distorts the profile. The GA 1003 is therefore more adaptable in high-performance panel assemblies where the edge condition is more complex than raw cut board.

Prominent Joint Detail for Large-Scale Installations: The widest gap produces the widest face of the H-section — a bold, assertive metal joint line that suits large-format panelled walls, high-ceilinged spaces, and installations where the joint detail is intended to register clearly as a design element rather than be minimised. In heavy-duty and industrial contexts, the more substantial profile also reads as appropriate to the scale of the materials being joined.

Corrosion Resistant for Demanding Environments: Thick panel systems are commonly used in demanding environments: sports halls, industrial facilities, storage areas, and heavily trafficked public spaces. Grade 6063 aluminium’s natural oxide layer provides corrosion resistance without any applied treatment, ensuring the GA 1003 performs reliably in conditions of mild humidity and temperature variation.

Independently Verified Anodised Surface Durability: Where the GA 1003 is used in a visible location subject to regular contact or cleaning — as in sports changing rooms, public toilets, or community spaces — the anodised finish option offers demonstrable performance benefits. Testing by Ceram Building Technology (now Lucideon) showed the anodised aluminium surface sustained up to four times as many abrasion passes before visible damage compared with mill finish, making it the appropriate specification for high-contact installations.

Double-Skin & Acoustic Panel Systems: Double-layer boarding — commonly two sheets of 12mm board bonded or fixed together to achieve improved rigidity, acoustic mass, or impact resistance — results in a total board thickness of around 24mm. The GA 1003 is the direct specification choice for joining these assemblies: the 26mm gap accepts the combined panel thickness cleanly without requiring any rebating of the board edges, and the profile holds both panels in a consistent, flush joint line.

Heavy-Duty Sports & Leisure Facility Panelling: Sports halls, leisure centres, and changing facilities use thick, impact-resistant wall panelling to withstand ball impact, cleaning regimes, and heavy use. The GA 1003’s wider gap accommodates the heavy-gauge board typically specified for these environments, and the aluminium profile resists the moisture and cleaning chemicals present in such spaces without corroding or deteriorating.

Structural Panel Partitions & Internal Walls: For internal walls and partitions built from 25mm structural panels rather than standard-depth stud frames, the GA 1003 provides the panel-to-panel connection at each joint. The wider profile distributes the joint over a greater area of the panel edge, improving the stiffness of the joint line in panels that are carrying lateral loads or spanning greater heights.

Exhibition & Events Infrastructure: Heavy-duty exhibition infrastructure — structural back walls, loading platforms, and large-format display structures built from thick board — demands a panel joiner that can take the weight and movement associated with repeated assembly and dismantling. The GA 1003’s 26mm gap handles thick engineered boards, and the aluminium construction means the profile can be reused across multiple events without deterioration.
