Description

The GA 1019 is an aluminium Y-section general purpose trim with a 7.0mm gapGA’s narrowest Y-shape profile. The Y cross-section has a single flat base and two diverging arms that open to form the gap. In use, the base is fixed to a receiving surface — a wall, ceiling, or floor — while the two arms overlap both faces of a panel edge simultaneously, finishing the junction where the panel meets that surface with a continuous metal trim detail that covers the gap from both sides.

This is a different function from an H-section, which joins two panels side by side in the same plane. The Y-section addresses the junction where a panel runs perpendicularly into a surface: the panel end is captured by the two arms, the base sits flat on the receiving surface, and the junction is finished cleanly on both panel faces without requiring any filler or sealant at the panel perimeter.

At 7.0mm, the GA 1019 is sized for thin materials — 6mm boards, lightweight composite panels, thin display substrates, and slim-profile partition systems where a narrow gap maintains a tight, controlled fit around the panel edge. Available from stock in mill (untreated) or natural anodised finish in 4-metre lengths. Powder coat and cut lengths available to order.

Notes: Jig marks, up to 50mm in from each end (often less than this), can be apparent on anodised items. These marks can be cut away before fixing.

Shade variations can occur with anodised surfaces due to the reactive nature of this finishing process.

Product Code:  GA 1019 (Mill) / GA 1019s (Natural Anodised)

Gap Width:  7.0mm

Suitable Panel Thickness:  Typically, 6mm (thin boards, lightweight composite panels, slim display substrates) — refer to the dimensional drawing for precise tolerances details.

Profile Function:  Y-section panel-to-surface junction trim: base fixes to receiving surface, two arms grip both faces of panel edge at the perimeter or termination point.

Profile Category:  Aluminium Y-Section — Panel-to-Surface Junction Trim

Material:  Grade 6063 Aluminium Alloy

Standards:  BS EN 755, BS EN 515, BS EN 573

Anodising Standard:  BS EN ISO 7599

Powder Coating Standard:  BS 6496 (1984) — available to order, please contact Sales

Length:  4 metres (4000mm) standard stock length

Available Finishes:  Mill (Untreated) or Natural Anodised

Finish Notes:  Anodised product codes carry an ‘s’ suffix (e.g. GA 1019s). Jig marks within 50mm of each end are standard and can be trimmed during final fitting. Shade variations may occur between batches.

Surface Marking Test:  Independent testing (Ceram / Lucideon): anodised surface achieved 4× greater abrasion resistance than mill finish

Finishes Both Panel Faces at a Junction Simultaneously: Unlike a single-sided edge trim that covers only one face of a panel edge, the Y-section’s two arms overlap both faces of the panel at the junction point. A single profile installation covers the gap between the panel and the receiving surface on both the front and rear face of the panel, eliminating the need for separate trims on each side and ensuring a consistent detail is seen from both directions.

7mm Gap for Thin Panels — No Loose Fit: At 7.0mm, the arms of the GA 1019 grip a 6mm panel edge with minimal play. This tight fit keeps the trim aligned to the panel without the trim rocking or shifting laterally after installation, which would be visible as an irregular gap against the panel face along the length of the junction.

The Base Provides a Stable Fixing Surface on the Receiving Structure: The flat base of the Y-section gives the profile a full-width bearing surface against the wall, ceiling, or floor it is fixed to. This larger contact footprint, compared with a single-leg profile fixed through a single flange, gives the trim greater stability and allows it to bridge any minor surface irregularities in the receiving structure without the arms lifting away from the panel face.

Anodised Surface Hardness Confirmed by Independent Testing: Ceram Building Technology (now Lucideon) tested anodised aluminium extrusion surfaces under abrasion conditions and confirmed they resist marking at up to four times the rate of mill finish. For a perimeter trim that sits at the exposed edge of a panel installation — at ceiling level in display systems, at floor level in partition runs, or at wall abutments in modular screens — the anodised finish provides demonstrably better long-term visual performance.

No Maintenance Once Installed: Grade 6063 aluminium’s natural oxide layer provides lasting corrosion resistance without any applied treatment. In mild environmental conditions the GA 1019 has a self-sustaining surface finish that doesn’t require regular maintenance other than an occasional wipe over with a soft cloth, making it a practical long-term perimeter detail for both permanent and semi-permanent panel installations. The anodised surface finish version provides enhanced surface protection and a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Exhibition Stand & Display System Panel Terminations: Modular exhibition stand systems built from 6mm display boards or thin composite panels need a perimeter trim where each panel terminates against a floor plate, wall bracket, or overhead beam. The GA 1019’s 7.0mm gap fits these thin panels precisely, and the two arms cover the junction from both the front and rear face — important at exhibition stands where both sides of a panel system may be visible to visitors passing through.

Slim Partition System Head, Base & Wall Abutments: Lightweight demountable partition systems using thin-format panels — common in temporary offices, pop-up retail spaces, and flexible event environments — require perimeter trims where the partition meets ceiling, floor, or adjacent walls. The GA 1019 provides this junction detail for 6mm panel systems, with the base fixed to the structural surface and the two arms covering both faces of the partition at the termination.

Internal Signage & Information Board Perimeter Trims: Freestanding or wall-mounted information panels, noticeboard systems, and menu board frames built from 6mm board need a perimeter detail at the edges and mounting points. The GA 1019 provides a neat junction where the board edge meets its mounting frame or wall bracket, covering the gap between board face and structure on both sides of the board simultaneously.

Thin Composite Panel Perimeter Finishing in Retail & Hospitality: Lightweight composite cladding panels used as decorative wall linings in retail and hospitality environments frequently terminate against floor strips, ceiling channels, or vertical wall profiles. Where these panels are 6mm in thickness, the GA 1019 provides the connecting perimeter detail — gripping the thin panel edge from both faces and fixing to the substrate surface, producing a tidy, gap-free junction without exposed board edges or sealant lines.
