Description

The GA 1020 is an aluminium Y-section general purpose trim with a 9.5mm gap. Like all profiles in the Y-shape range, the base fixes to a structural receiving surface and the two diverging arms overlap both faces of a panel edge simultaneously — finishing the junction where a panel meets a wall, ceiling, or floor perpendicularly. The 9.5mm gap targets the 8–9mm board and panel thicknesses that commonly appear in bathroom and kitchen wall cladding systems, tile-effect composite boarding, and mid-weight interior panels.

The additional working clearance over the 7.0mm profile is a practical advantage on site: wet-room cladding and composite boarding can vary in thickness across a batch, and panels that have been cut or trimmed may have slightly irregular edges. The 9.5mm gap accommodates these variations while still gripping the panel edge firmly enough to keep the trim aligned and gap-free at the junction line.

Available from stock in mill (untreated) or natural anodised finish in 4-metre lengths. Powder coat and cut lengths available to order.

Notes: Jig marks, up to 50mm in from each end (often less than this), can be apparent on anodised items. These marks can be cut away before fixing.

Shade variations can occur with anodised surfaces due to the reactive nature of this finishing process.

Product Code:  GA 1020 (Mill) / GA 1020s (Natural Anodised)

Gap Width:  9.5mm

Suitable Panel Thickness:  Typically,–9mm (wet-room cladding panels, bathroom/kitchen composite boards) — refer to the dimensional drawing for details.

Profile Function:  Y-section panel-to-surface junction trim: base fixes to receiving surface, two arms grip both faces of panel edge at the perimeter or termination point

Profile Category:  Aluminium Y-Section — Panel-to-Surface Junction Trim

Material:  Grade 6063 Aluminium Alloy

Standards:  BS EN 755, BS EN 515, BS EN 573

Anodising Standard:  BS EN ISO 7599

Powder Coating Standard:  BS 6496 (1984) — available to order, please contact Sales

Length:  4 metres (4000mm) standard stock length

Available Finishes:  Mill (Untreated) or Natural Anodised

Finish Notes:  Anodised product codes carry an ‘s’ suffix (e.g. GA 1019s). Jig marks within 50mm of each end are standard and can be trimmed during final fitting. Shade variations may occur between batches.

Surface Marking Test:  Independent testing (Ceram / Lucideon): anodised surface achieved up to 4× greater abrasion resistance than mill finish

The Right Gap for Wet-Room & Cladding Panel Thicknesses: Bathroom wall cladding panels, wet-room boards, and kitchen composite panels are commonly manufactured in 8mm thickness. The GA 1020’s 9.5mm gap accepts these panels with controlled working tolerance — enough clearance for on-site fitting, not so much that the trim arms are visually loose against the panel face at the junction line.

Seals the Perimeter Junction on Both Panel Faces: In wet environments, an unsealed junction between a cladding panel edge and a wall, floor, or ceiling creates a moisture ingress point. The Y-section’s two arms cover the panel edge from both faces, eliminating the open gap that would otherwise require silicone sealing on both sides of the panel. The aluminium trim provides a durable, non-porous cover at the junction that outlasts flexible sealants in high-humidity conditions.

Corrosion Resistant: Grade 6063 aluminium forms a stable natural oxide layer that resists moisture, humidity, and non-abrasive cleaning agents used in bathroom and kitchen environments without any applied coating. Unlike chrome-plated or painted steel junction trims, the GA 1020 will resist corrosion, or discolour in wet-room conditions, eliminating the replacement cost associated with cheaper alternatives.

Anodised Finish Resists Cleaning and Contact: Wet-room and kitchen junction trims are sometimes cleaned with abrasive cleaning products. Ceram Building Technology (now Lucideon) independently tested anodised aluminium extrusion surfaces and found them to withstand up to four times as many abrasion passes before visible damage compared with mill finish. In environments where the junction trim is cleaned daily, this measurable difference in surface hardness directly extends the appearance life of the installed profile.

Consistent Length for Long Perimeter Runs: At 4 metres per length, the GA 1020 minimises the number of joints in a perimeter run. In shower enclosures, bathroom cladding runs, or continuous kitchen splashback perimeters, fewer joints mean fewer potential weak points and a cleaner, more continuous trim line. Cut lengths are available from GA’s Sales Team for projects where specific lengths are needed to order.

Wet-Room & Shower Enclosure Panel Perimeter Junctions: The floor-to-wall, wall-to-ceiling, and panel-to-wall junctions in wet-room and shower enclosure installations are the most moisture-critical points in a cladding system. The GA 1020 fits the 8mm panels commonly used in these installations, covering both faces of the panel edge at each junction and providing an aluminium perimeter detail that does not degrade in continuous water and steam exposure.

Kitchen Splashback & Composite Panel Wall Terminations: Kitchen splash-back panels in aluminium-faced composite and acrylic composite materials are typically 8mm thick. Where these panels terminate against adjacent walls, cabinets, or the underside of overhead units, the GA 1020 provides the perimeter junction trim — covering both panel faces at the termination, fixing to the substrate, and providing a clean metal line that complements the panel surface.

Commercial WC & Changing Facility Wall Cladding Perimeters: Hygienic wall cladding systems in commercial toilets, changing rooms, and healthcare facilities use 8mm composite or PVC-faced boarding. The GA 1020 finishes these systems at floor, ceiling, and internal wall junctions, providing a non-porous metal perimeter detail that can be cleaned with non-abrasive cleaning agents.

Pool Surround & Leisure Facility Cladding Terminations: Swimming pool surrounds and leisure facility wet areas subject cladding perimeter trims to prolonged immersion, chlorinated water, and physical impact from bathers. The GA 1020’s natural anodised to AA25 microns corrosion-resistant surfaces handle these conditions without degrading, and its junction-covering function on both panel faces helps to restrict the moisture pathways behind cladding panels that are a common cause of premature system failure in pool environments.
